The pyrographic art works of American artist Tom Vogler readily demonstrate his extraordinary breadth of imagination and talent.

Tom Vogler's remarkable story and another of his works are featured in an illustrated article on a special exhibition at the Andrews Art Museum in North Carolina that is entitled Twentieth Century Pyrographers. That article appeared in Pyrograffiti in the March–April 2011 issue of WOM. The artist is also the assistant director of the Andrews Museum and assistant curator of this rare pyrographic exhibit.

Tom Vogler does not have his own web site but instead uses Facebook to show his works. Two video slideshows of Tom's work set to music are at the following links: Tom Vogler - Pyrography Artwork - Part 1 and Part 2.

Following is a quote from the artist regarding his inspiration and technique, and, in particular, his work (exhibited above) entitled "Control":
"Last year I went to a Blue October concert in Atlanta. Blue October is an alternative rock group from Texas. My first slide-show video was set to their song, Graceful Dancing. During the concert they performed a song called "The Answer", and it was just amazing. I started listening to that song repeatedly, and began to take the lyrics from the song and make them the subjects of my art. The song is really rather depressing but I couldn't stop listening to it. One of the lines in the song goes: "but in my head.... there's some shelves that need cleaning... from basement to ceiling... control". I have folders and folders of images on my computer that I use as references, and often I will take these images and begin blending them together. Distorting and skewing them until they become one image that is abstract and real to me simultaneously. I started burning "Control" right after I bought my Eagle Burnmaster machine. It is a two port burner that came with 10 tips. I began experimenting with all of the different tips and heat settings, and was surprised by all the textures and effects I was able to create. The color is from prismacolor pencil. After laying in the color I usually go back and apply heat to it, blending, smoothing, and melting it in. The heat also tends to tone the color down so that it's not so vivid."
