This 1870 unframed wood panel by the artist who signed Th. Hall on the verso was sold at auction in 2007 and is of unknown provenance except for what is indicated in the title at the bottom of the panel on the recto and the inscription burned on the verso. It is a centennial commemorative depiction of the first prayer in the American Congress, which took place at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia in September of 1774. The inscription on the verso is to a Mr. H. Henry, who is likewise unknown at this time. Could he be a descendant of the famous Patrick Henry, one of seven delegates from Virginia (including George Washington) present at that very congress?
