Robert McGehee of Paris, Arkansas, U.S.A, added the technique of pyrography to his studio some years ago when this exhibition was created. He also paints and does assemblages. His pyrographic art is based on the symbols and icons of primal peoples, mainly African, southwestern North American, and South Pacific Islanders.
One of his pieces in pyrography on wood entitled Brotherhood of the Circle was shown at the Santa Fe Classic, an annual juried competition of national and international artists, which took place at the William Vincent Fine Arts Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, U.S.A.
Update as of 2010: The link on his name leads to his web site, which reflects the activity of his latest passion, which is bead work. Now retired, Robert McGehee has been devoting his artistic energy to his bead work. However, in regard to the curator's query about his beautiful pyrography work, he says, "I've not done any of the pyro stuff in a while, but have a sketch book full of stuff to work on." Perhaps some new pyrography work will turn up soon.
