"LESSON IN PYROGRAPHY"

Adapted from an article on pp. 5–7 of the March–April 1904 issue of PYRO-CERAMIC ART MAGAZINE,
Vol. I, No. 10, published by G. Harry Abbott, in Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A.

The exhibit here begins with a partial view of the title page of the Pyro-Ceramic Art Magazine and offers there a glimpse of the opening article of this issue. It is now thought, because of the publication's location in Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A., that this may be one and the same Pyrographic Art Magazine seen in the E-Museum's Library page. It appears that the publisher decided to present a larger variety of crafts to attract a wider readership and keep the magazine viable. In this issue, this is the only article with "Pyrography" in the title. The magazine offers articles on Bead Work, Embroidery, Wood Carving, Drawing and Painting (also in the E-Museum's Library), China Painting, Miniature Portrait Painting, and even Basket Making, as well as an article on "Knowing the Styles" plus some pages of full-size designs especially suitable for pyrographic work.

It was to be another 106 years until another Pyrography magazine appeared.
