From the previous owner, who had acquired this panel at auction and whose images are shown here, art dealer Simon Rushton recently acquired the above framed wood panel rendered in 1820 by English artist Joseph Smith after an oil painting by the famous Italian Baroque artist Annibale Carracci in 1606. The panel in its original carved frame is very heavy. The inscription burnt on the back of the panel with the place and date are legible as Skipton, Yorkshire, 1820.

This rare work is for sale. If you are interested in acquiring this magnificent framed panel, please contact Simon Rushton at simon.rushton1@sky.com.

There is an 1810 full-length portrait by Joseph Smith of John Jeffreys (after a painting by Hoppner) in the Pinto Collection. An article entitled The Pinto Collection: Important 19th C. Pyrographic Artists highlights research and notes by conservator Susan Millis on that collection, which is at the Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery in England.
