American contemporary artist John Noffsinger from Virginia started doing artistic projects at the age of 13, including a woodburned still life on a cutting board for a gift of his own innovation using only a soldering iron.

Over the years, his artistic experiments included many areas of the visual arts, such as pen & ink, lithogrphy, watercolor, pencil drawing, carving, and then woodturning. The woodburning showed up again while he was working in carving, especially a bird feathering technique, which is what prompted him to acquire a pyrography tool. Once he was working in woodturned sculptures, his pyrography was a natural addition and has become an integral part.

John Noffsinger has his own handsome web site at johnnoffsinger.com with additional examples of his fine work.
