Spanish artist José María Párraga (1937–1997), although a famous and beloved artist in the province of Murcia, has yet to become well known beyond its borders. For four decades, he embodied the image of the nonconformist, the impoverished yet sociable, charismatic artist who lived for his art. His art works abound throughout Murcia.

José María Párraga's story and more of his works are featured in an illustrated article entitled José María Párraga: Starting in Murcia, in Pyrograffiti in the September–October 2008 issue of WOM.

Two sites with touching accounts of the artist's life (both written in Spanish) are the Museo Ramón Gaya and the Blog Patricio Peñalver.
