An American collector from Virginia recently acquired this fine example of a throne chair with a dragon motif at a flea market in northern Virginia near Washington, D.C. Although nothing further is known of its provenance, it is signed on the seat by J. B. Gonzalez and dated '03. This is the first work by this artist that we have seen thus far.

A throne chair in pyrography such as this one richly decorated with dragons is extremely rare, as these chairs were not the ones commonly manufactured for the pyrography enthusiasts of the turn of the century. This would have been especially made and especially commissioned by an artist of that time, in this case J. B. Gonzalez. The chair is decorated with dragons and traditional border designs and curlicues throughout, and even textured in background burning on the back.

If you have either any questions to ask or any information to offer regarding this throne chair in burnt decoration by J. B. Gonzalez, please e-mail the owner and the E-Museum Curator.
