"CHRISTMAS GIFTS IN BURNT LEATHER AND VELVETEEN"
by Florence C. Fetherston

Adapted from an article on p. 33 of the December 1897 issue of THE LADIES' HOME JOURNAL,
The Curtis Publishing Company, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

Although the E-Museum has been aware of Florence Fetherston—the author, artist, and illustrator of the article exhibited here—for some years, there is very little known about her. This article is particularly interesting because it deals with pyrography on two materials that are not so commonly discussed.

This is the earlier of two articles by her that THE LADIES' HOME JOURNAL has published. Both are on exhibit here in the E-Museum's Library.

In addition, THE LADIES' HOME JOURNAL had already published an article about J. William Fosdick in 1896, entitled "The Fire Etcher and His Art," which can be found in this artist's large section in the Antique Hall here in the E-Museum.

If you have either any questions to ask or any additional information to offer on Florence Fetherston
or the 1897 article exhibited here, please e-mail the E-Museum Curator.
