Italian art history professor and pyrographer Adriano Colangelo has lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil for more than forty years. He moved there from his native Naples, Italy to take a position teaching Art History. In 1964, he started working in pyrography on wood, which he termed his "new and definitive artistic language." By 1968, he was also producing works in pyrography on paper, and in 1970, he added pyrography on velvet. His art work has been shown in over 70 expositions in Europe and the Americas. His latest was in 2001. He has enjoyed a multifaceted career as a pyrographic painter of fantastical, mythological themes, professor of Art History, lecturer, published writer of essays, published illustrator of five scientific books, and international correspondent.
Adriano has his own website at www.adrianocolangelo.com.br with text versions in Portuguese and English. Adriano is fluent in Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, and is nearly so in English, as well.
Adriano Colangelo's story and art work were introduced in Pyrograffiti in a feature entitled Adriano Colangelo: Fantasy Themes in the July–August 2002 issue of the Woodcarvers Online Magazine. Because of his multifaceted and always fascinating lifestyle, this remarkable artist was featured in subsequent issues of Pyrograffiti in the following segments: Adriano Colangelo: Applied Art in the May–June 2004 issue; From Sao Paulo, Adriano Colangelo Lectures on Art and Life in the September–October 2004 issue; and Adriano Colangelo Exhibits at Chakras in the November–December 2005 issue of the Woodcarvers Online Magazine.
